Dock Terrace Updates

Renovations are complete on the second phase of Dock Woods’ new Health Care neighborhood. Its 13 private rooms and one companion suite now provide ample space, natural lighting, and tasteful décor. Nurses’ stations were also transformed into new living, kitchen, and dining spaces.

The Day is Finally Here!

After nine long months of the first phase of construction, we are thrilled to welcome the first group of Dock Terrace residents to their beautiful new Health Care neighborhoods!

Thank you to the whole team of employees and family members who worked hard to ensure smooth transitions for the residents. It truly was a team effort, but the smiles on residents’ faces made it all worthwhile.

Let the sunshine in!

Last time we checked in we were thrilled that the interior was underway! Now we are excited to report that not only is it underway, but drywall is going up and the paint and interior finishes are even being installed in some resident rooms.

In addition to the calming tones of the fresh paint, these new rooms offer plenty of light for our residents to enjoy the many benefits of the sun. When the renovation project is complete, all windows in resident rooms will be larger with lower sills so residents can enjoy the view even when they are seated.

We will also be going from just six private rooms to 50 private rooms, which will be a welcomed change for some of our residents who desire more privacy and maybe extra space and comfort during family visits.

You will also notice a picture of the new living room in Country Cottage which will have high ceilings and a skylight, allowing an abundance of natural light to shine in!

The last photo shows the future Country Cottage Care Base. This is very exciting for our care team, as they will now have their very own designated office area in each wing of Dock Terrace to coordinate their daily care routines and responsibilities.

The interior is underway in the new Country Cottage and the future is starting to feel so real.

Windows and doors are being installed which allows us to really feel how beautiful and full of light these new rooms will be. Some of the resident bathrooms are also underway, as pictured below, where residents will have a safe and spacious shower experience.

Next up? Drywall! Drywall is scheduled to begin on February 17, and we will be sure to post some progress updates along the way!

This week we’ll really start to see some changes.

The concrete vendor is spreading and tamping the stone over the dirt and perimeter insulation. The vendor needs to compact the stone, install the expansion joints, prep the bathrooms, install the wood forms for the bathrooms, and lay the wire mesh reinforcement yet before they pour any concrete. The concrete pours are scheduled to take place Thursday, Friday, and Monday, weather depending.

Thank you to Dock Woods resident, Perry Townsend, for his drone photographs. They really let us see exactly what is happening on the site.

I spy with my little eye…..

Storm water drainage is being installed around the perimeter of the new building and courtyard areas. More excitingly, the crews are framing the bump-out for the sample rooms. Before we begin work on any of the other resident rooms, we are building one private room and one semi-private room so we can be sure the floor plans function as well in real life as they do on paper.

Something is Missing at Dock Woods

If you have been to the Dock Woods campus recently, you may have noticed that something big appears to be missing. That missing building was the common areas in Country Cottage, which has been removed to prepare for the expanded living space in the new building.

The pictures below detail our progress so far. You can see that the fish pond visible from Willow View hallway has been drained (Don’t worry! The fish and frogs have found new homes), the bocce court has been protected so games can continue during construction, the foundation has been removed from the old building, and new foundation has been poured.

You can also see work inside the existing building. The crew is building two resident rooms in the remaining hallway area, one private and one semi-private, so we can make sure the floor plans work as well in the real world as they do on paper.

Construction Begins in Dock Terrace!

Dock Woods residents and staff gathered in the Chapel on Monday, June 13, to celebrate the beginning of construction in Dock Terrace. It was an afternoon of fellowship, complete with construction updates from Living Branches President/CEO, Edward Brubaker, introductions to members of the Benchmark construction team, and a litany read by several Dock Woods staff persons. We honored Dock Terrace throughout the years with a special video presentation, and celebrated all that’s to come with construction-themed cookies!

At this point in construction, Dock Terrace and Country Cottage rooms have been emptied out. A special thanks to our staff who has worked diligently over the past several months to make accommodations for our Dock Woods residents in Health Care during this time. You might also notice that trees have been cut down in our parking lots.
