Description

Class Summary

This class will examine some of the similarities and differences between Native American spirituality and Christian religious beliefs. Prior to contact with European invaders and Christian missionaries, the traditional Native American concept of spirituality was characterized by the belief that life cannot be separated into the secular and sacred. Life is colored by a deep faith in supernatural forces believed to link humans with all other phenomena in their environment. Students, especially those of Native American descent, will be invited to share with the class.

About the Instructor

Jim Tufano has made a lifelong study of Native American history and cultures, traveling extensively to visit many reservations, museums, and places of significance to Native Americans and Canada’s First Nations peoples. Jim and his wife, Jean, are residents of Dock Woods.
